So, my brine shrimp hatched... all 500 of them!

My brine shrimp have hatched! Thanks for the water recipe SeaMonkeyMan. It did the trick!
The problem is that I put too many eggs in and there are HUNDREDS of them. Eeek. Only about half the eggs have hatched so far so there are still hundreds of BShrimp and eggs floating about the place as well ![Surprise [:O]](/community/emoticons/emotion-3.gif)
I may have to get a bigger tank for them now ! It is looking very crowded.
Whoops lol. At least I know next time not to put too many eggs in . I better go and buy some food for them today I think as the SM food wont last long with all those BShrimp lol.
On another topic, I seem to have some red coloured SM. I think I may have accidentally got some BS eggs in there. I use the same aerator even though I wash it after every use. I am thinking maybe some of the BS eggs got stuck on the air stone and transferred to the SM tank despite my washing! What do you think? Possible or do I just have a few SM freaks (there are 3 red ones)

Woa, that is a very easy mistake to make (I did that my first time. ) What I do is I dip the underside of the small end of the sea-monkey spoon into the eggs and a few eggs will stick to the spoon. That is all you need. You should note that since you have so many, you will need to aerate the tank A LOT more than you normally would. You may notice a high death rate because these small babies can consume all of the oxygen very quickly. Good luck! Glad to see you've got them hatched!.
Also, about your red monkey, are you sure you don't have the color changing hybrid?

I put heaps too many BShrimp in then! I don't think they will make it past the weekend though because we have gone away for the Easter break so they won't get aerated for at least 2 days :(
I am pretty sure I just have the regular variety SM ones. It would say on the packet if they were special wouldn't it? I only have a basic Ocean Zoo and the Magic Castle. I don't remember seeing anything on the pack about colour changing ones!
Ahh well, I like them anyway :) The big red one is unoriginally called "Big Red" lol

since they are all hatchlings, perhaps their air requirement not as much but you have to aerate daily!
I had like 100 in a standard tank and they all started dying like flies
presumably because they had no air since I bubble them only twice a day.

When away for trips, I sit them in a sunny windowsill. When you don't aerate, algae growth speeds up. Aeration slows down any algae growth, so for two days, you can get some growth going that's enough to provide oxygen for a small colony.

They all seem okay :) I am back home and can still see them swimming about the place :) My whole house smells like the sea though lol. All I can smell is salty water, so I might have to get them another tank with a lid or something instead of the fish bowl.

I've been experimenting, and here is the latest one I used that worked great. I'm still trying to finalize the formula that yields the best, longer lasting results, so I'll be posting a new one once I get there. :)
1/2 tbsp. Sea Salt 1/8 tsp. baking Soda A pinch of eggs. 10 oz. Distilled Water

Why would you need a water recipe ??? Cant they thrive in a tank with the normal purifier ??? And cant they survive with seamonkeys ???
Please answer ASAP..
THanks

If you don't have water purifier, you need some kind of formula for them. Water Purifier wouldn't be enough because you'd have to have the egg packet too to complete the salt concentration. If you just have a bunch of brine shrimp eggs and want to start a colony, you can just use the formula rather than having to get your hands on Sea Monkey products.

BS = Brine Shrimp, which are ultimately the Sea Monkey species.

That sounds like a lot of Brine Shrimp, 500 in one tank. LIke Sea Monkey Man said, they most likely won't all survive, 500 baby sea mnokeys need A LOT of oxygen.
Sorry, for going off topic, but I'm getting a tad annoyed with chunky monkey. He has almost 1000 (almost 1/4 of all the posts!) posts, and not one of them used capitalization, puctuation, or grammar (go ahead, call me the grammar police). Many of them are spam, such as "kool" or "gl." A proper post normally has sentence structure and at least five words. you'll probably get more respect from everyone - or at least from me - if you shape up a bit.

Where can I order BS eggs and if I put them in with an already started SM colony, will the 'water formula' hurt my colony?

You can add the individual shrimp to the colony just fine, but I wouldnt mix the water.
