white cotton balls on the bottom?
Reply Quote

I was just browsing the seamonkey worship page and noticed in a faq there, that someone asked about something that looks like little white cotton balls on the bottom of the tank.  It says that's bacteria and it will kill the SM's.  I have something similiar to that on the bottom of my tank but it's hardly 2 weeks old yet.  Is that normal?  Does it need to come out?

You might want to try to take them out, also, adding Sea Medic probably won't be such a bad idea.

I've had that same problem, so I asked the people at www.seamonkeys.com. As long as it isn't dust, it should be fine. Apparently it might be uneaten food, and not bacteria, and should clear up as the monkeys eat it.

The topic is a year old, it's obviously a little late to try to help. The problem has obvoisly been cured.

That's actually a good idea, when people search, this may come up and it could help them. It can just get on some people's nerves.

I have these, too. It looks like the SMs are feeding off of it. I thought about getting it out, but was thinking it may be part of their ecosystem. So far so good. The balls that I have are more of a tannish color, rather than white.

I realize that this is a very old post, but I agree with the later posters that keeping it open and replying well after the fact is still very useful-- I'm having the same problem and getting a response here was very helpful! My seamonkeys are very healthy and only about a month old, with a few tiny off white tufts at the bottom of the tank, but they seem to be feeding off of them. I would rather not use sea-medic on them if they don't need it! I appreciate whomever contacted seamonkey co. directly and got an answer. Thanks!
