Hmm [^o)] Ovaries or Testicles? Digestive Tract Issues? Please help.

I thought I posted this before but it didn't work. If it double posts, forgive me =P

Just today on my Sea Monkey I have noticed 2 little round organs at the end of all its legs, on the under side of its body (near where the tail begins); from some angles they seem dark inside..the round things, from other angles they seem white...are these reproductive organs? If so, are we talking a male or female? If it's not reproductive organs..do I have a problem?

Secondly, my Sea Monkey's digestive tract is orangish to brownish..is this normal?

Hi. I'd just like to add, this is day 2 and my sea monkey, in place of the two round things, which I thought to be testicles or ovaries, now has like a triangular shaped thing with lots of little teeny tiny things inside of it that are..I dunno...peach colored.

You are perfectly fine... What you see is the "sacs" in which the females carry their eggs. The boys have two large antennae in the front in which they use to hold onto the female during mating. Everything you are seeing is normal... the orangish, brownish color in their digestive tract is simply the food in their system. Sea monkeys are transparent and you can see through them. This is how you can tell if they are hungry. Cool huh? The teeny tiny peach colored things are "the eggs" inside the mother and soon she will lay her eggs and you will see little tiny babies... Congrats!

It will become more clear... But I wouldn't let it get completely clear... Just wait until it's a bit lighter.

Ok :] My tank has little white things in it now..right after I said in another post it's been clear haha...they are dots or something ..do you think it'd be ok for me to do some tank maintenance while my sea monkey is pregnant? I think I need to filter the water through coffee filters again..cat hair just keeps getting in.

How long do they stay pregnant anyway? The other day was weird because her egg sac turned into 2 ball-looking things again, then the next day it looked like an egg sac again..she's trying to scare me :P

Don't change or filter the water, the way the water is makes their ecosystem. Without it, they will not be able to survive. The little brown things are eggs, the mothers must have layed some of their eggs. Nothing to worry about. Also the eggs are at the end of legs right before the tail in a little clear sack.

Now there aren't many eggs left in her pouch. Are you sure I shouldn't change the water? You can't see through the tank that great. Well, lakes are dirty/cloudy and I know other species of brine shrimp live in lakes but it concerns me. But, I don't wanna lose my eggs by filtering. Well thanks for all your help.

You are very welcome... Read this site it will tell you alot... http://www.seamonkeymania.com/sea-monkey-raise.html... It is very important not to overfeed them and no you should not change the water. Overfeeding can cause the water to be cloudy too.

Ok gotcha. I looked over it then bookmarked it.

Here in Kansas City, Missouri, we don't have a lot of sun light lately (rain and humidity)..I read on that link you gave me..about an inexpensive plant light that you can find at flower stores..should I just go ask them for one?

Hey, how many sea monkeys do you yourself have? :]

The best possible source of light is sun light, but if you are having a great deal of unpredictable weather, than a plant light may be a good investment. Try it out and see what happens.... I have about twelve full grown sea monkeys... but many of them are pregnant, so I feel I will be having some babies soon.... Congrats! On your new babies....Cool [H]

I'll let you know how it goes if I try that light thing out for sure :]

Man, that mom sea monkey died. I saw her corpse in the bottom of the tank this morning and it scared me to death coz it was black halfway! It looked creepy! I felt really bad..she was really cool..but I could tell she was slowing down, though I didn't know it was to that extent. Sucked her up with the aqualeash and flushed her. I had added sea medic a day or so before but no good I guess. At least I still have that one baby. I named her Reef haha (the new baby).

Do I need to sanitize the tank in some way because of this death? Maybe filter again?

I feel pretty upset about this, strangely enough. I know it's just a shrimp but she was a really nice pet. I even took her to my zoology class and showed her off in that bubble keychain. I feel like I must have neglected in some way but I just don't know how. My own cat is like a part of the family. Well..I guess we gotta move on. She was my first SM and will be remembered. I miss her doing her little sommersaults. lol

If there's still a surviving seamonkey in there, then you can't really sanitize the tank.

The death of the seamonkey is not surprising. Considering the posts in this site, sometimes they would die even when pregnant. It is a pity if they die before laying the eggs or giving birth because they take the next generation with them.

So at least, you got Reef.

:] I wanna know what that person in..what was it, Oregon? is doing to keep that tank so healthy. They have had it for years or something?!

Reef is really cool. It seems like her legs are longer than her mom's were..I thought this was supposed to be an exact clone coz the mom impregnated herself..anyway..it's even more fun to watch this one swim. It is very lucky I have this one!

Hey aquasaur, what are your sea monkeys like?
