Ok so I just got my tank and after adding packet 1 waiting and adding packet 2 I THINK theres babys,
But I was wondering how long do the seamonkeys live, I know they live for up to 2 years but will my tank be a home for sea monkey generation after generation or will after say the 2 and 1/2 yr all of the sea monkeys just drop dead and I have to buy a whole new tank and start all over.?
Sorry if I confuzzled you guys,
Mookie

Most likely the colony will only last 2 months. 2 yars is only a sales gimmick : \. Although one person holds the record of an 11 year old colony >____>

The 2 years means that you can keep a colony in the tank for about 2 years. It is not the life span of the individual sea monkey. Each sea monkey has about an 8 week lifespan. The 2 year guarantee is assuming you have babies and plenty of eggs in the tank that can hatch later. This also includes evaporating the water and starting over.

So the colony will wipe out at 2 years? why is this? Cant new generations sustain the tank longer?

You also must take into consideration that there is a myth VERYclose to ben confirmed that the sea monkeys are actually in breeding clones weakening their srength and immune system after each generation :(. It's VERY sad but that's how they make money.

Perhaps if you know someone with another healthy tank you could greatly reduce the chances of inbreeding by trading a few smonkeys? Alternatively, have 2 or 3 tanks and mix them occasionally! Spread the smonkey love!

Maybe, but it would take time for their immune system to evolve becasue they may have grown p in a different salinity, also, they are all clones if one pack is because they are robotically packaged from a bin of genetecaly engineered sea monkeys :(. So your tank and mine could just be brother and sister : \.

Yep :(. I might give up on my tank soon, they seem to be losing numbers every day. On the 6th day they are still very small little dots, they have been fed. I had 17 yesterday and can only count around 6 today : \.
